About COMLEX & USMLE

National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME) - The National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME) is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization whose mission is to protect the public by providing the means to assess competencies for osteopathic medicine and related health care professions.

  • COMLEX-USA (Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination of the United States) is a three-level, national standardized licensure examination designed for licensure for the practice of osteopathic medicine. COMLEX-USA is designed to assess osteopathic medical knowledge, knowledge fluency, clinical skills, and other competencies essential for practice as an osteopathic generalist physician. It is also a graduation requirement for attaining a DO (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine) degree from colleges of osteopathic medicine in the United States and for entry into and promotion within graduate medical education (residency) training programs.

  • COMLEX-USA Bulletin of Information -  All candidates must read NBOME’s COMELX-USA Bulletin of Information (BOI) and agree to the Terms and Conditions before scheduling any COMLEX-USA examination. The BOI is a comprehensive guide to COMLEX-USA examinations, including but not limited to the Terms and Conditions, examination descriptions, eligibility requirements, scheduling, administration, security, scoring and transcripts.

  • COMLEX-USA Master BluePrint -  Effective beginning September 2018, the COMLEX-USA is the pathway to licensure for osteopathic physicians seeking to practice medicine and surgery. It is the principal means by which the NBOME delivers on its mission to protect the public by providing an assessment of competencies for osteopathic physicians and related health care professions. Use this Master Blueprint to help understand the different dimensions of COMLEX-USA.

United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) - The United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) is a three-step examination for medical licensure in the U.S. The USMLE assesses a physician's ability to apply knowledge, concepts, and principles, and to demonstrate fundamental patient-centered skills, that are important in health and disease and that constitute the basis of safe and effective patient care.

  • USMLE Bulletin of Information - The Bulletin includes information on all aspects of USMLE, such as eligibility requirements, scheduling test dates, testing, and score reporting. You must review and become familiar with the Bulletin before completing your application for USMLE Step 1, Step 2 (CK and CS), or Step 3.
