Careers in Medicine (CiM) is a comprehensive career-planning program that provides students with the skills, information, and resources to choose a specialty and residency program that meets their career goals. CiM offers tools for students to help guide them through self-assessment and research about specialty and practice options.

Residency Explorer Tool

Residency Explorer helps medical students and applicants to U.S. residency programs research programs in their specialty of interest and compare themselves to previously matched applicants at those programs.

Residency Explorer delivers insights and information based on:

  • Residency applicant data from AAMC (ERAS)
  • Matched applicant data from NRMP
  • USMLE data from the USMLE Program
  • COMLEX-USA data from the NBOME
  • Residency program directory information from ACGME
  • Program characteristics from the National GME Census Survey, jointly administered by the AAMC and AMA, to which 95% of residency programs self-report information about their programs.

DO Residency Match Rates

The Journal of Osteopathic Medicine (JOM), formerly known as the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association (JAOA), annually publishes match results of osteopathic medicine graduates into AOA residency programs.

2019 was the final year of the AOA Match. No publicly available data could be found similar to data summarized for the years 2007-2018.

The 2020 National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) was the first "single match" in which all DO and MD graduates were matched using the same system.
